Corona del Sol Girls Earn Runner Up Finish at Aztec Invitational

The Corona del Sol Aztecs girls track and field team delivered a strong performance at the Aztec Invitational, finishing second overall on the girls side with a total of 135 points. The Lady Aztecs showed depth across both track and field events, highlighted by multiple personal bests and several podium finishes throughout the meet.

Corona del Sol started strong in the 100 meter dash, where the Aztecs placed 1st, 3rd, and 13th. Kailyn Topic led the charge, winning the event with a personal best time of 12.47 seconds. The momentum continued in the 200 meters, where Cristina Cooper paced the Aztecs with a 4th place finish in 26.29 seconds while another teammate placed 10th.

In the 400 meters, the Aztecs secured 5th and 11th place, led by Camryn Barna who ran 1:01.79 to finish fifth. The middle distance group also had an impressive showing in the 800 meters, with Addison Stewart placing 3rd in a personal best time of 2:23.01. Close behind her was teammate Rhima Edkaidek in 4th place with another personal best time of 2:23.50, while another Aztec runner finished 14th.

The distance events saw Corona athletes place 9th, 13th, 20th, and 23rd in the 1600 meters, and 13th, 15th, and 21st in the 3200 meters, continuing to add valuable team points.

In the hurdles, Kylee Jacobs led the Aztecs in both events. She placed 5th in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 17.26 seconds while the team also finished 12th, 19th, and 23rd. Jacobs returned in the 300 meter hurdles to take 3rd place with another personal best of 49.72 seconds, with teammates finishing 12th and 18th.

Corona del Sol’s relay teams also played a major role in the team scoring. The Aztecs tied for 2nd place in the 4x100 meter relay with a team personal best time of 49.32 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team added a 3rd place finish with another team personal best of 4:10.95, while the 4x800 relay secured 2nd place with a team personal best time of 10:22.35.

In the field events, the Aztecs continued to shine. Maris Peterson led the way in shot put with a 2nd place finish after throwing 33-10.00 (10.31m), while teammates placed 12th, 16th, and 20th. In discus, Corona athletes finished 12th, 13th, 14th, and 18th.

The javelin throw proved to be one of the strongest events for the Aztecs. Mackenzie Flynn won the event with a throw of 128-00 (39.01m), while Maris Peterson added a 3rd place finish with a personal best throw of 104-03 (31.78m). Another Aztec finished 14th.

Flynn also contributed in the high jump, tying for 2nd place with a clearance of 5-00 (1.72m), while teammates finished 5th and 11th. In pole vault, the Aztecs placed 5th and 11th.

The Aztecs had another standout performance in the long jump. Caitlyn Wendell won the event with a personal best jump of 18-07.25 (5.67m), while Chloe Zorensky finished 4th with a jump of 16-03 (4.95m). Two additional Aztecs placed 11th and 16th.

In the triple jump, Lena Sorensen led Corona del Sol with a 3rd place finish after jumping 32-08.50 (9.97m), while teammates placed 5th, 6th, and 10th.

With contributions across nearly every event and multiple personal best performances, the Corona del Sol Aztecs girls capped off the Aztec Invitational with 135 points to secure second place overall, showcasing both their depth and competitiveness as the season continues.
