Thunder Rally Spoils Aztecs’ Senior Night in 8–3 Rivalry Win

The Corona Del Sol Aztecs looked in control early, but a mid game surge from the Desert Vista Thunder flipped the script in an 8–3 rivalry win on Senior Night.

Corona del Sol set the tone out of the gate, taking a 1–0 lead and holding it through the first two innings behind solid pitching and clean defense. The early momentum had the home crowd energized as the Aztecs aimed to protect their field on a night dedicated to their seniors.

That momentum shifted quickly in the third inning.

Desert Vista broke through with a three run frame, turning a one run deficit into a 3–1 lead. The Thunder’s timely hitting sparked their offense, and from that point on, they stayed in control of the game.

Corona del Sol fought to respond, showing flashes of the form that made them reigning 6A champions, but Desert Vista continued to add insurance runs and limit any comeback chances. The Aztecs managed to push across three runs in total, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Thunder’s offensive burst.

With the win, Desert Vista improves to 21–4 overall and 5–1 in the 6A Central, holding first place and moving up to No. 4 in Arizona according to MaxPreps. Corona del Sol falls to 15–7–1 and 3–4 in region play, now sitting fourth in the 6A Central and ranked No. 5 in the state.

Despite the loss, the Aztecs showed early dominance and late fight but it was Desert Vista’s decisive third inning that ultimately defined the night.
