What to look out for with the remaining AIA 6A Baseball Playoffs

The 2025 AIA 6A Baseball State Championship playoffs are soon coming to an end, and the competition is intense as teams battle for a chance to reach the championship at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ. Here's a breakdown of the recent action and what to expect as playoffs progress.

The top overall seed, #1 Corona del Sol, cruised through the first two rounds, including a dominant 10-0 win over Sandra Day O’Connor. But their momentum was halted by Red Mountain pitcher Maddox Loria in a 2-0 shutout during the third round. Now, Corona faces a rematch against Sandra Day O’Connor in an elimination game (G25), fighting for survival in Pool A.

#4 Red Mountain has quietly become one of the most dangerous teams in the bracket. With an 8-3 win over Tolleson, a close 6-5 win over Brophy Prep, and their huge win over Corona del Sol, they earned a direct path to the Pool A Final. A win there puts them one step from the state title game.

On the other side of the bracket in Pool B, #3 Casteel has looked nearly unstoppable. After a close 2-1 opening win over Higley, they routed Millennium 9-0 and crushed Mountain View (12-2) in the third round. They await their challenger in the Pool B Final (G28 on May 16), with one win putting them in the championship.

The Huskies are holding on tightly even despite an upset loss to Mountain View (Mesa) in Round 2, #2 Hamilton has clawed its way through the elimination bracket with tight wins over Desert Vista (5-4) and a rematch against Mountain View happening on May 13 (G26). Hamilton’s experience in playoff pressure makes them a team to watch for a potential rematch with Casteel.

With only a few games remaining, every pitch, hit and strike counts. Will top-seeded Corona del Sol recover from a stocking defeat? Can Hamilton rematch their earlier loss and take down baseball powerhouse Casteel? Will Red Mountain complete their perfect run?
