Open Division Quarterfinal Excitement!

The AIA Boys Basketball State Championships lit up Millennium High School Friday night as the Millennium Tigers welcomed the Higley Knights in a highly anticipated Open Division quarterfinal matchup. Both teams brought strong seasons into the tournament, but only one could advance closer to state title glory in the tightly contested postseason.

The Tigers came into the playoff game with one of the best records in the state’s top division and a reputation for offensive firepower. The Tigers have been one of Arizona’s most consistent programs this year, blending scoring depth with disciplined defense to control games. The Higley Knights, meanwhile, earned its spot in the brackets by defeating Deer Valley in a tight earlier playoff game, showcasing toughness and resilience that have become hallmarks of the Knights’ season. The Knights entered Friday night ready to challenge Millennium’s impressive home court dominance.

Intensity From Tip Off

From the opening tip, both teams pushed the pace and tested each other’s defenses. Millennium’s balanced attack found scoring from all over the lineup, while Higley countered with aggressive drives to the basket and spirited play on the glass. The first half featured multiple lead changes and explosive moments that set the tone for a classic playoff atmosphere.

Higley’s offense stayed within striking distance throughout regulation, refusing to back down despite the Tigers’ assertive pressure. Millennium’s sharp ball movement and timely scoring kept its margin manageable, and both squads entered the final quarter knowing that a late surge could swing the outcome.

A nationally ranked Millennium roster and a dangerous Higley lineup, underscores how competitive the AIA Open Division has become in the 2025-26 season.

Millennium’s win would propel the Tigers into the state semifinal round and keep their championship dreams alive, while the Knights, whether advancing or ending their season, have shown grit and skill worthy of postseason recognition.

Fans and analysts alike are already looking ahead to potential matchups as the playoffs continue to unfold, cementing this year as one of the most thrilling campaigns in Arizona high school basketball history.
