Led by sophomore running back Byron Brandon and an astonishing Scorpions defense, Desert Edge dominated from wire to wire, grinding down Cienega in a second-round 5A state playoff game in Goodyear.
Early Game Momentum (1st Half Breakdown)
Desert Edge set the tone early with a balanced mix of ground power and timely defense. Brandon burst loose for a 3 yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter to put the Scorpions on the board. On defense, Nekhi Lambeth came up big by intercepting a Cienega pass, giving his offense momentum.

Sophomore running back Byron Brandon delivered a dominant playoff rushing for 250 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 10.0 yards per carry, a career high that showcased his explosiveness and consistency. In the passing game, Dayvon Standard added crucial big play production with 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns, providing a reliable spark whenever the Scorpions needed it. Defensively, Desert Edge set the tone with Kye Wells, Antonio Para, and Yahzeen Zion each recording 1.5 sacks.
